Teach me to Make always adapts its workshops to best fit the wishes and constraints of the hosts and participants. There are, however, underlying principles common to all Teach Me To Make events:
Curiosity based learning. Lecturing is kept to a minimum and the projects are hands-on. Students discover and share the missing information. We encourage students to solve problems and participate, instead of following our lectures as a step by step we guide. Materials, such as electrical and mechanical components, are in as raw a state as possible. While adapting these materials to the application, students gain a better understanding of what properties of the materials are important.
Teach me to make believes that anyone can be creative and artistic, and can understand and make use of technology. We are particularly interested in teaching in communities which otherwise may not have access to this material, and to students who may undervalue their abilities in these areas.
