Homework due Friday April 12

Present your initial concept for your project. Your project must be sufficiently complicated to qualify as a final project for this class. It is not sufficient to turn on some LEDs or a motor. If you are unsure, write to me, and we can discuss whether your project qualifies. Similarly, it’s OK if you don’t know everything yet.

You should address the following:

  1. Brief overview of the concept.
  2. Block diagram or schematic.
  3. Identify what’s technically interesting, in the context of this class.
  4. Parts list.
  5. Identify the risky areas of your project. These might be technical, financial, time, or logistical: anything that might cause your project to fail.
  6. References to web sites or projects that provided inspiration, technical information, etc.

  1. It is your responsibility to ask me for help with your project
  2. You have additional lab time with me on Saturdays and Mondays from 3 PM to 5 PM, until the end of the semester
  3. Create a Google doc for your project:
    1. The document name should be your name
    2. Describe your project
    3. Include any pictures, sketches, descriptions, and schematics you have
    4. Make a “to do” list, itemizing all the tasks you need to do
    5. Itemize weekly which “to do” items you’ll have done by each Friday
    6. Make a “Questions for Teacher” list of everything you need to ask me about
    7. Make a shopping list of everything you need to get
    8. Include any pictures, sketches, descriptions, and schematics you have
    9. Include any links you have found that might be useful. This includes other projects, inspiration, schematics, videos, etc.
  4. Contact me via email if you do not understand this. This document is part of your homework for April 12.
  5. Finish all the “to do” items that that are due on April 12

  • There is an end- of-semester show in Oakland, Saturday May 11th for electronic and kinetic projects. The show usually runs from about 7pm to 11pm. Unfortunately I will be unable to attend but you are encouraged to participate. Please contact Barney Haynes <bhaynes@cca.edu> to confirm your interest.

  • Maker Faire is on May 18 and 19. I know it’s graduation, but if you have time, it’s an event not to miss. There are many ways to participate, including for the first time participating in the CCA booth:

  • Projects are due at the beginning of our last class, May 10. Class will not be a work session.
  • Extra lab hours tomorrow (Saturday) from 3-5pm and on Monday from 3-5pm
  • Please bring your projects to our last meeting, working or not. Partial projects will earn partial credit.
  • Be prepared to demonstrate and give an informal presentation of your project, explaining what worked, what didn’t, and lessons learned.
