How to install a library in Arduino

Automatic Installation

Starting with version 1.0.5, you can install 3rd party libraries in the IDE.

Do not unzip the downloaded library, leave it as is.

In the Arduino IDE, navigate to Sketch > Import Library. At the top of the drop down list, select the option to “Add Library”.

You can also install libraries manually.

Windows Manual Installation

Libraries can be installed in one of two places. Libraries in C:\Windows\Program Files\Arduino\libraries will be available to any user, while libraries in My Documents\Arduino\libraries will be available only to you.

  1. Create the Arduino\libraries folder, if it doesn’t exist
  2. Copy all the new library folder into it
  3. Restart Arduino to re-scan the library folder and see the new library
